Scholarship Policy
Managed and sponsored by the Wunti Al-Khair Foundation. This policy sets out the eligibility requirements, application procedure, and award criteria governing all scholarships at Wunti International Academy.
The Wunti International Academy Scholarship Programme is managed and sponsored by the Wunti Al-Khair Foundation through the Bala Wunti Education Fund. This policy outlines the eligibility requirements, application procedures, and award criteria governing all scholarships at the Academy.

Our rationale
This programme is designed to widen access to quality education by providing opportunities to children who lack the financial support to attend school.
Our guiding belief is that every Nigerian child deserves access to quality education, regardless of tribe, religion or family background. Accordingly, our scholarships are strictly need-based and are awarded only to children who can demonstrate an inability to fund their education.
Definitions
- Orphan — for this programme, a child who has lost one or both parents.
- Scholarship— financial aid provided by the Bala Wunti Education Fund to cover a learner's tuition fees, uniform and stationery.
- Guardian— an adult appointed to take responsibility for the care of a child, and who has consented to support the child's education under this programme.
- Beneficiary — a child who has been awarded a scholarship and whose education is sponsored by the Bala Wunti Education Fund.
Eligibility
To qualify for a scholarship under this programme, an applicant must meet all of the following conditions:
- Need status — the applicant must be certified as an orphan, or must demonstrate that they have no financial means to access education without the scholarship.
- Academic commitment — the applicant must demonstrate a genuine and sustained interest in pursuing education.
- Compliance — the applicant and their guardian must agree to abide by all rules and regulations set out in this policy.
Application procedure
- Apply online— the child's guardian or family completes the official scholarship application form online (free), clearly stating why the child is eligible for a need-based scholarship.
- Reference — the application must include one reference from a recognised community leader or religious leader.
- Verification — the Foundation conducts a confidential investigation to verify all information provided. Approval is granted only upon successful verification.
Tenure and scope
Tenure.A scholarship award remains in effect for the duration of the beneficiary's studies at Wunti International Academy, provided the beneficiary continues to meet all academic, conduct and policy expectations set by the Bala Wunti Education Fund.
Scope.The scholarship covers only costs directly related to the beneficiary's education. It does not extend to expenses outside of school fees, uniforms and stationery.
Disbursement
All scholarship funds are disbursed directly by the Wunti Al-Khair Foundation to Wunti International Academy. Under no circumstances will payment be made directly to the beneficiary or their guardian.
Expectations and responsibilities
For this scheme to succeed, everyone must play their part. The School and the Foundation are fully committed and have structures in place to deliver; the beneficiary and their guardians are expected to do the same. Failure to meet the School's expectations may lead to the withdrawal of the scholarship.
Wunti International Academy
- Foster an inclusive environment where beneficiaries are socially accepted and treated equitably by staff and learners.
- Train staff to identify and mitigate unconscious class biases, and avoid tasks requiring out-of-pocket spending; where unavoidable, notify the Foundation in advance to provide the funds.
- Identify learning gaps and provide structured academic support for any beneficiary who requires it.
- Appoint qualified mentors to provide moral and academic guidance.
Wunti Al-Khair Foundation
- Settle all tuition and approved educational expenses promptly, without delay.
- Appoint designated personnel to monitor beneficiaries' welfare and follow up on their concerns.
- Translate this policy into relevant local and indigenous languages so guardians fully understand their responsibilities.
The Guardian
- Actively monitor the beneficiary's grades, report cards and study habits.
- Ensure prompt resumption, good attendance and punctuality; support any unavoidable absence with a valid reason.
- Limit domestic responsibilities that interfere with studies and provide a quiet, suitable study space at home.
- Enforce discipline, address behavioural issues promptly, and attend school meetings as required.
The Beneficiary
- Submit all assignments and projects on time and seek academic support when needed.
- Adhere strictly to the School's Code of Conduct and conduct themselves respectfully at all times.
- Attend school daily and punctually, except in cases of illness or verifiable emergency.
- Represent the School and the Foundation with integrity, in and outside school.
Withdrawal and termination
The Academy and the Foundation reserve the right to withdraw a scholarship at any time. Grounds for withdrawal include, but are not limited to:
- Academic underperformance— persistent failure to meet the minimum academic benchmark set for the beneficiary's level, reviewed at intervals by the School.
- Disciplinary issues and misconduct — serious or repeated breaches of the Code of Conduct, or conduct that harms the reputation of the School or Foundation.
- Application fraud or misrepresentation — obtaining the scholarship through false or misleading information, which is grounds for immediate revocation.
